Have you ever had the feeling that you were somewhere and you were like: “This was a little strange, but at the same time pretty good”. Well, I had that feeling after I watched Hail, Caesar! in the cinema last weekend. I already heard some stories about the producers of the movie. They make slightly different movies. So, I went there without expectations. Before I watched the movie, I have seen some trailers and it delighted my vintage heart that this movie was shot in a Vintage meets Present setting. I mean, how can I not see this movie that is set in the Golden Era. So, here is a little personal review of the movie Hail, Caesar!
It’s that time of the year again. The time when a certain someone will tell you a little story about how he gave his heart away last Christmas (will he ever learn?) and someone else only wants you for Christmas, which is nice but she told you that so many times. You should know that by now.
Yes, it’s December again and the most wonderful time of the year is coming soon. In my perception, Christmas is also the most nostalgic time of the year. We watch (old) movies with our family and friends and bring up memories. 90s kids who always watch Home Alone as a Christmas tradition, raise your hands! Also, we love to listen to listen to the (Dutch) top 2000 songs of all time. With a lot of classic hits and memories. Nostalgia all around.
We’re still in the lessons learned mood. When it comes to movies there are two important aspects: entertainment and food for thought. The best movies have a combination of both and of course a good story. A movie gives you food for thought because of its story (remember my latest blog tell your stories) and strong dialogue. Strong dialogue is like candy (or should I say chocolate) for your brains. Words that inspire you, entertain you or that verify your already awesome state of mind…
You know those songs that you heard for the first time and are on your repeat button ever since? That list will be growing today. It’s been a while, but finally it’s time for another episode of “Songs of the week”. In previous episodes, I have showed you some of my favorite jazz, soul and funk songs. Today I want to shine some light on some lovely Old Hollywood music masterpieces of the golden era. The songs below are on my Youtube repeat button since the first time I discovered them during my Old Hollywood movie nights.
Well first of all you will see that some of the songs are mimed and not really sung by the actresses mentioned below. Still I believe that they “own” the song, because of their acting, appearance and charisma. Besides that, these songs are pretty good! The writing of this post was actually delayed because of me, selecting …
Today I was scrolling through my old Hollywood movie quotes memory. When you read some movie dialogue transcripts, you realise that you don’t always have to watch the movie to relate to the situation or put it in perspective. Some quotes may lead to random thoughts like: “that’s hilarious” or “let me use that line as an inspirational quote”. And ofcourse there are some movie quotes that are so good, that you feel the urge to say them out loud…
Here are a few quotes of my favorite Old Hollywood movies. Enjoy! Memorize them and if needed, you may want to add some quotes to your real life dialogue transcript.
Already posted this one in a previous item, but…
