Reading a magazine. Been there done that. Still doing it when it’s an interesting magazine. But what about a magazine that you can experience live? Never been there and never done that. So it was time to try. Last Thursday was the grand opening of a new pop-up store in Rotterdam: INCONCEPT Live Magazine. As a blogger, I was invited to this event to experience this new pop-up store.
Let’s start with some background information. INCONCEPT Live Magazine is founded by Evana Kuik. Evana Kuik is a designer and has her own label: EVAN Menswear. Her idea was to create a live platform for upcoming creative designers and artists, where they can work on new concepts and designs and show their unique products to the public. INCONCEPT aims to be a platform for national and international talents. Just like a magazine has various categories, INCONCEPT offers various live categories: fashion, food, (interior) design, art, beauty, books, music and photography and more.
The opening event was an interesting experience. I didn’t really know what to expect so I went there with an open minded. The great thing about an open mind and no expectations? A pleasant surprise. It all started with a warm welcome. Next thing I immediately noticed when I walked into the store was the relaxed atmosphere. There is no “buy pressure” at all, even if you have made your fifth round in the store. There were live happenings like the fashion show of the EVAN Menswear collection and live demonstrations of laser engraving on your favorite objects. At the grand opening it was also possible to get a “live” tattoo!
In my opinion there are two main reasons why this pop-up store is really different than others. First of all, the store has something for everyone. You can go in the restaurant upstairs to get a coffee or a sandwich. When you’re done you can go downstairs and choose some nice reading material in the book section, walk around and try out some unique shoes, walk to the other side and shop some not-so-common baby clothes and go back for a nice laser engravement on your iPhone! Secondly, this store has a nice vintage meet present blend. Which I obviously really like. You will find real vintage items at INCONCEPT but also products with the technology of today.
