silent movie

And no, it’s not Christmas yet so if the famous Christmas song started playing in your head, press on pause (for seven weeks). Today, I would like to share another Silent night special with you. Now that autumn has arrived and winter is coming, you may want to increase your movie nights with blankets and some hot chocolate.

If you are watching a movie, spoken dialogues and not-muted gestures play an essential part in your movie experience.
So, you are either:
– laughing and enjoying the movie (because humor and great spoken dialogues make the world go round)
– not laughing and enjoying the movie (because life is not always fun and games, which is being shown in this movie)
– not laughing and enjoying the movie (which is why you are distracting yourself right now on the world wide web, social media or your beloved smartphone).

When you think about movies these days, sound and spoken conversation are important elements which can totally break or make your movie experience. What is Pirates of the Caribbean without the hilarious dialogues of Captain Jack Sparrow for example? And who doesn’t remember the iconic words “Bond. James Bond”? As common as it is right now, hundred years ago speaking in movies was totally not normal. However, music has ruled our lives since various centuries and also silent movies could not run without some good music.

Oriental Spice and some Chocolate

Movie trailers: where would we be without them.

They seduce you to go the theater (or spend time behind your laptop) and leave you with satisfaction, because you liked the full movie and not just the 3 minutes trailer that you’ve watched before.

Or…

They seduce you to go to the theater while afterwards leave you wondering why you did not spend your money on…oriental spices and some chocolate for example, because the trailer included the best moments of the movie.

One way or another trailers have always been an important promotion channel. Nowadays for the amazing special effects and in the old days for that good old Hollywood glamour. Today I am showing some movie trailers of a few “mustsee” Old Hollywood movies. Keep in mind that ofcourse in those days laptops, tablets and watching movies online were soooo not 20th century. Oh and another thing: don’t let the black and white pixels scare you. The world is not always black and white, but some of the greatest Old Hollywood movies are. Enjoy!

Today I was scrolling through my old Hollywood movie quotes memory. When you read some movie dialogue transcripts, you realise that you don’t always have to watch the movie to relate to the situation or put it in perspective. Some quotes may lead to random thoughts like: “that’s hilarious” or “let me use that line as an inspirational quote”. And ofcourse there are some movie quotes that are so good, that you feel the urge to say them out loud...

Here are a few quotes of my favorite Old Hollywood movies. Enjoy! Memorize them and if needed, you may want to add some quotes to your real life dialogue transcript.
