Before selfies were cool

Remember the pre-selfie time a few years ago? The time when you asked someone else to make a picture of you with a good old (digital) camera. Or…the time when you used the self-timer button for delayed action shutter release to create those very professional and spontaneous pictures that still make you proud. “No this picture was not made by a professional. Shutter buttons for life.”  The shutter release button time is still going strong, because why wait for someone else to make a picture, when your shutter release button skills are still going strong.

From smartphone to smart shopping

Our phones are smart for quite a while now. We wake up with that little allround device and go to bed with it. It notifies you about your friends, family, the world, cats and dogs running the internet and let’s not forget those interesting ‘SALE’ emails…
However, nothing beats live communication when we are in good company. The same applies to shopping. Online shopping is nice and easy, but we all like some good old ‘live’ shopping every now and then. Where some online shops have almost everything in their product line these days, live shops are often specialized in a few categories. Store in, store out, store in, store out…does that sound familiar?
Well, things are about to change. Remember the magazine-brought-to-life pop-up store INCONCEPT Live? This store that shops like a magazine, opened its doors in November 2014. It offers a platform where creative designers and entrepreneurs showcase their original concepts and …

Reading a magazine. Been there done that. Still doing it when it’s an interesting magazine. But what about a magazine that you can experience live? Never been there and never done that. So it was time to try. Last Thursday was the grand opening of a new pop-up store in Rotterdam: INCONCEPT Live Magazine. As a blogger, I was invited to this event to experience this new pop-up store.
Let’s start with some background information. INCONCEPT Live Magazine is founded by Evana Kuik. Evana Kuik is a designer and has her own label: EVAN Menswear. Her idea was to create a live platform for upcoming creative designers and artists, where they can work on new concepts and designs and show their unique products to the public. INCONCEPT aims to be a platform for national and international talents. Just like a magazine has various categories, INCONCEPT offers various live categories: fashion, food, (interior) …

The fashion photography recycle machine

Nowadays, selfies rule the world (and the internet). Who hasn’t taken a selfie in the last 3 years with their smartphone? Although the term “selfie” is something of the last few years, they are actually self-portrait snapshots with a new name. Making a self-portrait is not new at all (Vincent van Gogh would agree). Selfies are just self-portraits in a recycled form. Although you can follow take-the-perfect-selfie classes nowadays, I definitely wouldn’t put under the professional photography category… No, we still have real photographers for that.
However, recycling old ideas is of all times. It happens in music, fashion and photography. Althought it happens more often in the present, they also definitely knew how to recycle ideas in the old days. Today I am focussing on fashion photography. Every picture that you see in a magazine has its own story and meaning, but more importantly it often has its roots somewhere in the past. Important …
