When you’ve been around in the retro fashion world, you may know some of the most popular retro fashion webshops at the moment: Topvintage and Succubus. I am a very loyal customer, but there is so much more to discover in retro fashion wonderland. I’ve made a list of my favorite retro style webshops with original concepts and lovely colors. Some I’ve known for a few years, some I’ve just discovered recently As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, social media is my number 1 source when it comes to discovering (new) brands. Well, research…I usually bump into brands as I am scrolling through de explore area on Instagram. Also interesting if you’re not that retro, but you like to have a few different (colorful) fashion items or accessories.
Today I wanted to do a post close to the roots but of course with a retro link. Obviously, I am heavily inspired by the vintage styles of the past. However, this blog starts with Oriental Spice for two reasons. First of all, you can take it literally, because I am literally oriental. Secondly, it stands for food for thought and inspiration next to the lighter things in life (check the inspiration column category if you’re interested). Inspirational food for thought is a topic that always comes back, occasionally with an oriental touch. Remember for example how I wrote about the Indian festival Diwali)? Back to the first reason.
As you know I am a big selfie fan. However, I am always looking for diversity in pictures. So I like to be creative and “artistic” with my selfies as you may have seen on my social media channels. However, every now and then I get those vintage glamour photoshoot vibes. A few years ago, I already did a vintage glamour photoshoot. You may have seen a few of those pictures on Facebook & Instagram. This time I wanted to focus on a more pinup style. So that’s what I did. Where did I do my photoshoot and what are the results?
There is something about pencil skirts and dresses. I have always been fascinated by them. They are so classy and feminine. A while back I’ve written a post about the history of the pencil skirt. Remember how it all started with a propeller in 1908 and that it was first called the Wiggle skirt propeller in 1911 and that it was first called the Wiggle skirt? It wasn’t that long ago when women were only allowed to wear skirts and dresses. Things have changed though. Thanks to classic icons like Katherine Hepburn, fashion trends and a huge mentality change later in the 20th century. But there is one thing that didn’t change: pencil skirts and dresses never went out of style. Let’s wiggle back from the old vintage days to the present, because nowadays it’s still that classy item that is always right and suitable for every occasion.
Remember my post about trademarks? Everyone has their own trademarks, even when you’re not aware of them. Your trademarks are not only limited to appearance. How you behave, how you think…personality is key. However, today I am talking about personal trademarks in appearance. One of my own appearance trademarks to me more specific. Oriental Spice Red Lips and some Chocolate Hairflowers pretty much sums it up. I will not talk about the red lip(stick) today, maybe another time. I do want to talk to you about flowers. I wear them a lot and in every season.
